ARLA (Accelerate Resilience Los Angeles) convened a special working group to develop metrics for balanced watershed projects. Here’s a brief and informative video of what they discovered.
Without Water is an 18-minute documentary short about a unique coalition in the Eastern Sierra made up of environmentalists, ranchers, Native Americans and community groups fighting to keep the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power from taking their most precious resource, water. In 2018, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power announced plans to remove water from 6,400 acres of land they own 250 miles north of Los Angeles in Long Valley, CA. This is a wetland habitat more than double the size of downtown LA, critical to habitat, culture, public safety, and the area's tourism-based economy. As the Eastern Sierra already suffers the effects of water extraction, an unlikely coalition has brought together this rural community to prevent further dewatering and keep Long Valley Green.
